Since the introduction of hardcopy MyMedicare patient registration forms, numerous forms have been incorrectly sent to Services Australia, instead of being submitted to the relevant practice for processing.
The Department of Health and Aged Care has been working with Services Australia since October 2023 to inform practices about the correct process and provide necessary assistance.
Starting 1 April 2024, Services Australia will no longer communicate with practices or patients who send in hardcopy forms.
All hardcopy MyMedicare forms sent to Services Australia, either via patients or practices, will no longer be processed and will be destroyed.
Practices must now keep these forms in the patient’s clinical records, in accordance with federal and/or state and territory legislation applicable to their practice.
