People who test positive for COVID-19 are likely to experience mild symptoms and recover without requiring special treatment or hospitalisation, especially if they are up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations. For the latest clinical care resources, check the Gold Coast HealthPathways, or please visit the RACGP website.
If your general practice does not provide COVID-19 vaccinations, alternative providers can be found through healthdirect.
COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for all people aged 18 years and older. It is also recommended for children aged 6 months to less than 18 years with medical conditions that may increase their risk of severe disease or death from COVID-19. For more details, visit the Australian Immunisation Handbook website, or access the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance FAQs.
Many at-risk individuals, including those in Residential Aged Care Homes, may be homebound or face obstacles and health conditions that prevent them from obtaining COVID-19 vaccinations from general practices or community pharmacies.
Service providers unable to arrange vaccinations for these individuals can request support by completing this form.
Post-COVID-19 Syndrome or ‘Long COVID’ may be considered as symptoms extending beyond 12 weeks from initial symptom onset. While knowledge and understanding of post COVID-19 conditions is still evolving, there is some evidence to suggest it may be experienced by up to 30 per cent of people who had a COVID-19 infection and may not be related to the severity of their illness.
To support General Practitioners and other Health Professionals caring for patients experiencing post-COVID-19 symptoms, Gold Coast HealthPathways has published a Post-COVID-19 Conditions pathway. COVID-19 HealthPathways are regarded as the key sources of truth for clinicians relating to COVID-19. Don’t have a login for HealthPathways? Register here.
